As we approach the shortest day of the year before they begin to lengthen again, there is a chill in the morning air. It was about 11 o'clock a few days ago and the frost was still clinging to the vegetation in one shady corner of the garden. It lined the edges of the ivy, highlighting its graphic forms, and lay in a light dusting on quince leaves. Like icing on festive confectionery.
